The Storms Legacy - House Tour

"I think Cake House is symbolic of history and the way history is told. Story upon story, fact upon fact." - Alice Hoffman

In her novel The Probable Future, Alice Hoffman writes about the Sparrow Family who all live in a house nicknamed "Cake House" because every generation there were "additions added on like frosting" to accommodate for the growing wealth and size of the Sparrows. This description is exactly how I picture the classic build-as-you-go Legacy style house. It's certainly a good description for mine, which is why I refer to it that way in the legacy.

Welcome to Cake House. The Storms family mansion.

07/07/11: I had another dream that I lived here and I had a patio that looked kind of like this coming off the back. Now I want to build it. XD

07/26/11: I added the patio, you can see it here. ♥

This house is my first Sims house EVER. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's mine. XD Just a note, this lot is HUGE, so I will probably not upload it. It's full of ridiculous amounts of CC anyway.

This house can hold 21 sims comfortably. So it also has 11 bathrooms. :D

Here's the front view.

Here's the back view. Not quite as elegant as the front.

Here's the top down view of the first floor. (I'm going to start from the left and go clockwise.) Dining room with adjoining half-bath. Kitchen. Foyer. Back Patio. Suit #1 - I occasionally call it the Mediterranean Suite or Parker's Suite - with full bath. Kid Room #1. Another full bath. And then the large, main living area.

Here's the front door! I'm not the best landscaper in the world, so occasionally you're going to see overgrown plants and trees growing through the walls. I just can't be bothered to fix it. *shrug* But I like having lots and lots of plants. I accentuate most of the bushes with the Bird of Paradise plant, so you'll see a lot of those.

Walking through the front door, here is the left view of the foyer going into the kitchen and dining area.

And the right view going into the living area. It's behind a plant, but to the far right is the EA print that Carolyn went bonkers over when she first stepped into this house. So it will remain beside the front door forever. ♥

Here's the fully equipped kitchen. It has a dishwasher, garbage disposal, food replicator, and two refrigerators. I have two because it takes care of the weird clump sims go into in the morning when they want to eat. Or the weird clump party guests get into when they're raiding the leftovers stash. You get the idea.

I have these three expensive paintings in the kitchen, currently, though I wish I could find a better spot for them without sacrificing window space. I downloaded the set because it was named "Storms". Seemed fitting.

Dining area, where Parker's photo portrait hangs. The door to the right leads to a half bath.

Here's another view of the dining room, with Kendra and September photo portraits, and the adorably cozy fireplace. Also there's an outside door here which I will go through after this:

Here's a quick shot of the aforementioned half bath. Sorry it's so dark. XD

Going out the dining room door, we see the garage to the left and the family fishing pond to the right. There's a bench next to the pond that ghosts sleep on occasionally.

Here's the view facing the dining room door. There's a cozy little seating area no one uses except, of course, ghosts. Also, you can see Avalon's photo portrait is also in the dining area.

Creepy close-up of the fishing pond! We have goldfish, red herring, rainbow trout, alley catfish, angel fish, death fish, and frogs stocked in this pond.

Here's the four cars in the four-car garage. There's the badass motorcycle, which is the only reason I bought Fast Lane. :P The car Jonas moved in with back in the day, which I repainted blue. The Corvette and the Audi that I downloaded from Fresh Prince Creations.

And the scooters I bought once my teens suddenly forgot they could drive. :P No taxis allowed in this legacy. You either teleport, or take a scooter.

Going around the corner, we see the front yard garden. Chess table, pretty seating area, and a toy chest since this is the ideal place to put toddlers down. For some reason.

We went back through the front door, but this time we went to the right to the living area. The xylophone and shape sorter are both in the main living area because I think it's cute when the toddlers are mingling with the rest of the family. ♥

Another view, with Carolyn and Don's photo portraits. Down the hallway there we get to the bedrooms, but I need to show you a couple more things before we get thataway.

Behind the halfwall, there's the main computer. This is a hot spot for bored sims. There's an outside door to the left here:

Going out, we see Parker's long abandoned garden full of dead plants. No one has rolled an interest in gardening since Avalon. Which is silly. C'mon, Storms, free money. :P

Facing the door. Here's where I placed the meditation stones and another stone bench that ghosts use.

Turning right, here's another bench, the quaint circular type. The snake basket that only Avalon has used. And Evan's (pauselegacy) swank fire truck, yo.

We're back to that hallway. The Hallway of Love because all the Heirs and their partners have a lovey-dovey portrait down here. Cornelia and Aidan (kittenmittons) made a special appearance in this hallway because they had their extra-special spin-off.

First door down a full bath, second is Kid Room #1, and last is Suite #1.

Here's a shot of the full bath. It's an awkward rectangular shape for photo-taking.

Another view. There's a toddler chair down here because I felt bad for the toddlers that got stuck on the first floor and couldn't find the potty. :(

This is also Everybody's Favorite Bathroom in the World. Sims go out of their way to use this one instead of the one in their suite or the one closest to their respective rooms.

(For reasons I don't understand, you can see the photos on the other side of the wall through the mirror. Eh. -.-)

Here's Kid Room #1. Currently Sanji is the only one who sleeps here because I let Memphis and Cael move into suites when they grew up. But all three of them used to share it.

Another view. On the desk is the only other computer in the house, a fire print laptop.

Here's Suite #1, also called the Mediterranean Suite or Parker's Suite since I originally decorated it for her when she won Heir. Kendra and Evan are the current occupants. I decided not to redecorate a suite for Kendra because I thought this one suited her, albeit for different reasons than it suited Parker.

Another view. The television obviously wasn't here when it was Parker's suite. :P

The sitting area and the door that leads to the private bath.

There's a double shower and an a bath.

Another view. With a gnome. There are so many gnomes, gah.

If we run all the way back to the foyer and run out the door directly across from the front door, we're on the back patio. Fully equipped bar, barbecue, and fire pit.

Super fun playground.

And the gigantic pool.

Another view of the pool, with the hot tub on a platform and an outdoor dining area.

Second floor! Once again with feeling. Suite #2 - occasionally called Carolyn's Suite or the Butterfly Suite - with adjoining 3/4 bath. Art & games corner and patio. Half Bath. On the top right is another outdoor seating area. Suite #3 - The Seraphina Suite or Avalon's Suite - with adjoining full bath. Nursery. Exercise patio. Kid Room #2 with adjoining 3/4 bath.

Coming up the stairs, we see the game and arts corner.

Closer view of the arts corner with the patio door.

A sunny, little seating area.

On the other side of the patio is another easel.

Down the hallway from the arts corner is some more seating. And the virtual reality video game player. :3 The door leads to Suite #2.

Suite #2 or the Butterfly Suite. A.k.a Carolyn's Suite because the decorating hasn't changed since I decorated it when she came into money. Also, Cary-the-Butterfly lives here. This is the smallest suite in the house. I used to call it the "Spare Room" because I used to impregnate the spares in here before kicking them out. ;) Currently Cael is living here.

A shot of the adjoining 3/4 bath.

Quick shot of the half bath off the arts corner.

Going the other direction from the stairs, we having even more seating. The door to the right is Kid Room #2, the door around the corner to the left leads to the Nursery.

Kid Room #2. Cricket and Dylan currently live here. This is also, oddly enough, Parker's favorite room to haunt.

Another view, with the door leading to the adjoining 3/4 bath.

It's a tiny square bathroom that has just enough decorating to get the lowest moodlet.

Another view. Voilà.

Here's the nursery. It's outfitted to hold up to three babies since I ended up with triplets the one time. If I ever end up with more than three babies/toddlers, I break out the tiny twygo cribs and place them in the parents' suite.

Another view. High chairs, that can be swarm central.

Toys and toddler chairs.

Outside the nursery to the left is another seating area, and a toy box. To the right is another patio door that leads to the athletic equipment.

For the Sim Fu enthusiasts.

Plus the conventional equipment.

To the right from the nursery and around the corner is the fish tank and a pile of awards won by Evan, Kendra, and September.

A hallway with Spare portraits. The door leads to Suite #3.

Quick shot of the outdoor seating area at the end of that hallway. And my China gnome.

Suite #3, or the Seraphina Suite, also known as Avalon's Suite. I redecorated September's suite for Avalon, so September doesn't have a suite named after her in this house. Memphis, and now Moses (mykasims) since he moved in at the end of the last update, are currently living in here.

Another view. Pangu's Axe makes an appearance.

Another view with the door that leads to the adjoining full bath.

Full bathroom, view one.

View two, with the partitioned off toilet.

View three. Seating area by the door.

Now we're going all the way down to the basement. This was a weird angle to take this picture because the band room is under the front door. To get oriented, we're facing the northeast corner of the house. Starting in the corner and going clockwise, we have a 3/4 bath. Laundry room. Band room. Butler's room. Nectar cellar. Mausoleum.

This is also where I keep chests and miscellaneous clutter.

Lots of random WA clutter. The painting on the wall is Parker's last unfinished work before she died. It looked cool, so I didn't have the heart to get rid of it.

One view of the mausoleum. Not technically a mausoleum since it's a basement and not a free-standing building, but I can't think of what else to call it. *shrug* Sims are laid to rest in front of their respective portraits, with spouses next to them.

Except for Hugo. He's on a shelf. :P Must be strange for Kendra to know where she's gonna be for all eternity someday.

Laundry room. :D

There's a 3/4 bath attached to the laundry room because a) the band room is a hot spot during parties b) it's for the butler and c) it's just a damn good idea to have a toilet on every floor, m'kay?

Basement bathroom.

Second angle.

Nectar cellar, complete with nectar making machine and fortune cookie maker.

Another view. Seating area, which is a popular homework spot, and the Body Sculptor.

The Band room, which is popular during parties. I put all the Gen 4 Spare portraits down here because I still love that generation of the Storms unreasonably. Though this one, Gen 6, was pretty happening too. XD

The door in the band room leads to a tiny bedroom I built for the butlers.

Nothing much to see here. It's a comfortable bed at least?

An end table, complete with a photo of elder Don reading in China. So the butlers can't say I don't treat them right.

Finally we get to the third and final floor. To get you oriented, I took this picture facing the back of the house. Obviously I can't be consistent, but oh well. This floor is going to be largely unfamiliar to readers because no one lives on it yet. So starting from the bottom left and going clockwise: Suite #4 - The Fusion suite - with full adjoining bath. Kid room #3 with adjoining 3/4 bath. Patio. Kid Room #4. Hobby area. Full bath.

Coming up the stairs to the third floor. This floor is smaller than the rest of the house because it has a loft, but also because I build a lot of patios so there isn't as much floor space the higher you go. :P

Directly across from the stairs is a patio that faces the front of the house.

The telescope is located on this patio.

As well as the sculpting station.

To the right, we have the chemistry set. If you look out that window, you'll see Parker's garden. The door leads to Suite #4.

Suite #4, or the Fusion Suite, will be inherited by and named after the next Heir. The sliding door leads to the adjoining full bath.

Another view with seating area and fireplace.

Going through the sliding door, we have the bath. This is the largest and niftiest bathroom on the lot in my opinion. It has a bunch of little alcoves and an arch that leads to the bathing area. It also has a private balcony. With an unfinished wall, OMG. XD I will have to fix that first thing when I open my game. How embarrassing.

Turning left, we see the mini meditation garden and the bath.

Stepping through the arch and going right, here is the toilet and the shower.

Back through the arch and facing the other side of the balcony, we have the sink in another little alcove.

Kid Room #3. I went a little nuts with all the new Generations stuff.

Another view. Bunk beds, the desk, and the door leading to the adjoining 3/4 bath.

The very colorful kiddish bathroom with the snarky posters. And the mirror Memphis got during a field trip.

Another view which includes the shower to prove to you it's really a 3/4 bath.

Back out in the hall, we find more hobby stuff. The inventing equipment currently being used by Cael and the Time Machine Parker invented. To the right is a full bath, to the left is the door to Kid Room #4.

The full bath. I love this store set.

Another view. Now that I'm looking at it, I don't think anyone could get into the shower. I will probably have to delete that cool linen stand. Oh well.

Bath, with the wall mural that came with Generations.

Kid Room #4. Bunk beds and nekochan radios.

Another view. More bunk beds, books, bean bag chairs.

Third view. The desk, and the television.

So if you've been counting, I have six "boy" beds and six "girl" beds in the Kid Rooms. Also, the Kid Rooms don't have nifty nicknames like the suites because I didn't take the time to think of them. If anyone has any ideas, I'm game.

And I'm leaving you in the front yard by the baking table and toy oven. ♥

SO THAT'S MY HOUSE. I hope everyone that's been requesting a house tour enjoyed it. ♥♥♥

Thanks for reading! ♥

This is amazing! 8D
I wish I had the building/decorating skills you have ;/

May I ask where you get your furniture? :)
Jacquelinevayleen on June 30th, 2011 01:28 am (UTC)
Believe me - it just takes practice. I was terrible at this when I started out. ^.~

Which furniture are you after specifically? I get bits and pieces from everywhere. >.>

I always wondered what the 'cake house' reference was to! Very fitting for a legacy house.

I'm in awe of your decorating! The house looks amazing, and I especially love all the plants. The '11 bathrooms' made me chuckle.
Jacqueline: ms i feel finevayleen on June 30th, 2011 06:19 pm (UTC)
I agree! The name was just stuck in my head the whole time I was building the house.

Thank you! It took a lot of practice. And I'm always on the search for plants; I think I bought all the one available in the store. :P And if one doesn't have an abundance of bathrooms, sims have accidents. They're like little kids that way, because if they enjoy what they're doing they won't stop to pee. It drives me crazy.

Omg this house--it's beautiful and amazing! I think I love the exterior the most. Man, now I'm really inspired to try an "add-as-you-go" house for my legacy instead of simply moving them from house to house when they get too big for it. :(a
Jacqueline: sims3 veronica moodyvayleen on July 1st, 2011 01:39 am (UTC)
Thank you! Especially about the exterior because that's where I feel like my building skills are the weakest. ♥ I know that add-as-you-go houses can be troubling because once they start to glitch, you either have to replace the whole thing or move. =/ I wouldn't have been able to do this kind of house without NRass Mods, let me tell you.

GAHH! your house is very cool ;) lov'n the 'cake house' effect XD

LOL SO MANY BATHROOMS :D I get your point though, sims can be verry anoying and stand around doing stuff then forget to use the toilet so it's handy to have plenty of bathrooms.

Heheha your lot size must be massive to have a house so big on it, It's a good idea to build on a big lot so that you have room to build more rooms when nessecary. I made the mistake of building a house on a smaller-medium sized lot and found that I didn't have enough room to upgrade and such, infact I've moved my family twice for the same reason lol. *headdesk*

I really like your decorating skills, LOTS OF CC :D Oooh by the way, does your game lag much? with heaps of cc and a rather large house does your game run very smoothly? I don't think mine could handle it :P

ANYWAYS all I was supposed to say was great house! *alwaysprocrastinating* :3

Jacquelinevayleen on July 2nd, 2011 08:31 am (UTC)
Thank you! It's a great way to describe a legacy house, isn't it? :)

YES. Very important to have one bathroom for every two sims, or something along those lines. Otherwise it's a mess.

I started on a 40X30 lot, and then upgraded to 60X60. And then when I moved to Los Aniegos, it was 64X64, but I don't really notice the difference. XD I just didn't want to start with a wall-less house like a lot of legacies do.

My computer is a gaming beast, so it was perfectly fine with the lot before installing Generations, but now I have the slight lag everyone has been complaining about since the patch. It's not unbearable though.

Thank you again! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. ♥
Jessicajossoco on July 7th, 2011 03:43 am (UTC)
Such an amazing house :D the inside interior is kick ass! Share your talent plz.
Also, I've always read & loved your legacy, but always too shy to comment :c
Jacquelinevayleen on July 7th, 2011 07:07 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! Sadly, I can only share what little talent I have by posting these pictures.

It's okay to be shy, but I promise I am not so scary. ♥
Jessicajossoco on July 7th, 2011 03:44 am (UTC)
Oh, and where did you get those one squared baby cribs? I've been looking everywhere, but can't find them x_x
Jacquelinevayleen on July 7th, 2011 07:06 am (UTC)
The Little Sister cribs from Mod the Sims. ♥ Very handy.

This is a totally geeky thing to admit, but sometimes I dream I live here. And after I built the playground and pool, and dreamed about it again, I ran outside like YAAAAAY! XD

srsly this is like the seventh time that I look at this house tour. I just can't get enough of it! And every time that I look at it I see something that I hadn't seen before. A+ in my book .:DDD

Re: downloadable
That's odd, you're the second person to ask me this week. Unless you're also the anon that asked me earlier. XD

I really, really, don't want to upload the house, but I'm willing to compromise if you're game. IF (and only if) I were to upload the house it would be under these conditions:
1) It wouldn't be until AFTER the epilogue of the Storms Legacy. The house evolves and changes throughout the story, so I wouldn't have the finished product until the very end anyway. I know that's a long time to wait, but it's the only time I'm comfortable with, sorry. ♥
2) I wouldn't, under any circumstances, upload it to the sims3.com Exchange for personal reasons. =/ I would upload it as a .sims3pack to my journal.
3) I am only comfortable with uploading an UNFURNISHED version of the house. Seriously, this house is chock full of CC, OMSPs, and all sorts of other nonsense. It causes memory problems in my game constantly. So you see why it wouldn't translate well into another game. I've heard countless horror stories about others uploading furnished versions of their legacy houses, and I don't have the capacity to break down the errors other simmers would come across trying to get my house to work.
4) All that being said, if I uploaded it, I'd include links to the CC doors and windows I used, so the house looks relatively the same from the outside. :) All my CC is in .package form, so it wouldn't upload with the house. You'd have to install it yourself.

Like I said, I really don't want to upload it at all. But under the circumstances listed above, it might be a possibility. But if any of those things don't work for you, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to upload it any other way.
